with music and boys.
Saturday night the Teapot and I saw Little Red (the band) and Little Red (the knickers ×2) at the 'Lounge. I have the following to say.
Boys in 'spray-on pants' are becoming exceedingly attractive to me. Simon Jones, the lead singer of the Holidays, who were supporting LR, can wear them and his guitar any day of the week in my presence. You know, if he's legal. He looks so young, I can't tell.
So, we bought the Holidays EP, the Holidays, featuring the single Holiday. Zero for originality. Ten for having toured with Jamie T. I like. Their pop music reminds me of being 13 and really falling in love with music for the first time. I have had the CD on loop since I got home just after midnight Saturday.
When I see live music, I always imagine whether the band/artist would make an appropriate wedding singer/band. I always do this. Even when I walk past the busker on the corner of Bourke. Some girls choose the dress. Others the flowers. The venue. Bridal party. China. I choose the band. And I've chosen. So, if you're willing, Little Red, I'd like to book you for a wedding that may happen in the future. At the time of print, I have neither a date set or a man that has proposed a life together. Keeping that in mind, if Simon Jones of the Holidays is available, coffee? Then a wedding? No. Another thought – perhaps the only thing better than having Little Red playing at your wedding would be having Little Red playing at your wedding after you've married Tom Hartney of Little Red (if you see his photos on the band's myspace page, don't ask me to explain that attraction, but I think it's based on the colour of his hair. Oh and all his ooohs).
Do not get me started about Misty, I. I love.
Their drummer Takahiro Honda is quite possibly the happiest person in the world. I did not see a smile leave his face. How he keeps his rhythm on the drums when he's bouncing his head from side to side is beyond me. But I was impressed. The fact that he is also a scientist (and Asian) makes him perfect for the Teapot. Could it be possible that the soulclappers found life partners on the same night (again).
Boys in official Little Red underwear invaded the stage during the encore. It was cute. And hilarious when the security guard, that chased them off the stage, slipped on a girl's handbag as he lunged at the darker-haired underwear-er. Only on the Peninsula is it mandatory for boys to semi-nude up.
My only complaint is that they played Jackie Cooper almost up front. But all their songs are top shelf, who am I to complain? I had the best night at a gig in years.
Andy Bull (and band) were good (they played first) but I do feel that Andy Bull is holding back the band. Maybe they don't write music and that's why they have no part in the name but they're a talented crew and deserve to be his 'trio', 'five', 'badseeds', or similar. Andy Bull(.com.au) has a lovely website though. I particularly like the watercolour/lead pencil sketch and the typeface of his name.
The soulclappers were snapped by the myspace photographers. We can be found here. The first person to figure out who we are wins a limited edition soulclap tshirt, soulclap ghost and pre-loved book signed by the Teapot and I. Get to 'where's munchi and fallopian?-ing'.
Now, go drink some Coca-cola and ice.
